ELYSIAN PALETTE

Welcome!!

An aspect of life that I have come to embrace and believe is that there are always second chances, new hope, fresh starts and so much amazing revelation and knowledge to be gained, utilised and put into practice that can change our lives for the better.

I always wanted to be an artist and knew from a young age that my art would be used to communicate a message.  I grew up believing that to be Graphic Design or illustration in a commercial field, but due to long term chronic illness, that plan was side-lined and I  travelled another road for a long season.  In 2007 I went back to part-time art studies - a back to basics exercise to fill in the gaps of my sporadic creative training.  I wish there was more time - I want to explore fine art and the Australian landscape, but I still have a strong pull toward design also.  Trusting that the two will somehow meld and unify into a creative whole as I move forward in finding my way and voice.

Taking into account my natural inclinations, skills, passions and the practical aspect of space, design, painting and drawing are my key focus.
During my  past, I was able to do little more than black and white pen/ink and graphite drawings.  But as I have come into greater healing and wholeness, colour is springing forth like a new season.  For a very short period, due to space allowance, I began to embrace sculpture and also made a few small instillations.  I loved the tactile aspect of making things and found the three dimensional gave me a new language and ability to express myself more clearly.

In painting, I'm finding myself drawn more and more to the Australian landscape, especially the country areas, the farming communities,  the endless wheat fields and sheep paddocks, and the outback. I want to use landscape, signs and symbols as metaphor and parable to tell story.  I am interested in seasons, change and transformation - both in the natural environment and seasons of change and transformation within the individual and how they reflect each other.

Also, I wish to portray the landscape just for its sheer beauty as well.   Australia has wonderful light, colours and textures.

I expect because of what I have been through in terms of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual ill health, I have a very strong desire to use my art and image making as a means and vehicle to explore spirituality.  The healing of individuals brings healing to the collective whole.  It has the capacity to transform families and communities.  I hope to encourage people to explore and embrace spirituality in their world and find greater fulfillment, meaning and purpose.
